For updates and important information about the Aladdin NetHASP security key for EnCase Network Authentication Server (NAS), please go to the NAS web page:
Aladdin NetHASP for EnCase Network Authentication Server
- Download the appropriate driver for the dongle:
- Confirm that the USB security key is NOT plugged into the USB port on the forensic computer, and that EnCase is not running if it has been previously installed.
- Launch the Rainbow driver executable (SSD5411-32bit.exe), or unzip the HASP file and launch the enclosed executable (HASPUserSetup.exe).
- Allow for the installation to finish, reboot your computer and once rebooted, plug your dongle in. At this point, the computer should automatically detect and install the drivers for your dongle.
- Install the appropriate version of EnCase. If you are running EnCase Version 3, you will need to make sure you are using Version 3.22g and place the enhasp.dll file in the root of the EnCase directory folder (typically C:\Program Files\EnCase). Once the file has been placed in the folder, right-click on it and place a check mark in the Read Only box under Attributes:. You can download the file here:
Download enhasp.dll
NOTE: If your computer has an AMD64 processor and has Windows XP Service Pack 2, skip the above steps and do the following:
Locate the boot.ini file in the root of your boot drive, where the Operating System was installed (in most cases, this is C:\). You may need to go to the Tools menu in any Windows folder and enable the Show Hidden Files and Folders option and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files under Folder Options… as shown below:
- Right-click on boot.ini, select Properties and remove the check mark from the Read Only box (if it is checked).
- From the Start menu, select Run and type "<Boot_drive_letter>:\boot.ini". Click [OK] when complete. *
- Locate the line containing: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /noExecute = OptIn and change the text to: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /Execute
- Save and close the file.
- Reboot your computer and perform Steps 1-5.
- Edit boot.ini to revert back the original as shown in the first line in Step 8. Save the changes and close the file.
- Right-click on boot.ini, select Properties and check the Read Only box.
- Launch EnCase. You can confirm that it is working clicking on the Help menu and selecting About EnCase. This should display the correct dongle serial number and order number. Check to ensure that EnCase DOES NOT contain "Acquisition" in the title bar.
NOTE: You may experience problems installing the dongle drivers if you have antivirus programs installed. Disable the antivirus programs on startup; reboot your computer and install the HASP security key drivers as outlined above. Remember to reactivate your antivirus programs after the drivers have been successfully installed.
Removing Security Key Drivers
In the event you need to remove the dongle drivers, or if the drivers were not installed correctly, please perform the following steps for removal:
- Uninstall the dongle from the Device Manager. You can access the Device Manager by right clicking on the My Computer icon and selecting Properties, then clicking on the [Device Manager] button.
- Unplug the dongle from your machine.
- Remove the HASP Device Driver/HASP HL Device Driver from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
- Reboot the machine and perform the dongle driver installation as described above.
